Arthur Friedheim Library
Had a wonderful few days in Baltimore, visiting the Arthur Friedheim Library at the Peabody Institute. The great pianist Arthur Friedheim is the subject of my PhD research, and having been studying his life and works for the last few years, it was very moving to be able to visit this beautiful library named in his memory. The library is home to the Friedheim collection, part of the Peabody Archives. The collection consists of music manuscripts, letters, writings and other items related to Friedheim. Highlights include a lock of Liszt's hair, and a signed photograph of Albert Einstein... But the most special part for me was having the opportunity to handle documents handwritten by Friedheim himself. It's a surreal experience! Many, many thanks to the team at the library and archive for being so gracious and welcoming, and for taking such care with preserving the Friedheim collection!
